SPICE STRIKES PLATINUM IN CANADA & GOLD IN THE US!

GRAMMY AWARDS 22’

The Jamaican ‘Queen Of The Dancehall’ Spice celebrates a platinum hit, as her 2021 hit single 'Go Down Deh', featuring Grammy-winning artists Shaggy and Sean Paul, has officially been certified platinum in Canada by The Canadian Recording Industry Association.

The Balkan inspired track, produced by Grammy nominated Romanian producer and singer Costi Forza, who has produced the Billboard hit ‘Dame’, also featuring Shaggy, has accumulated more than 256 million views on Youtube, 200 million streams on Spotify and has been used in 4 million TikTok videos.

‘Go Down Deh’ contributed to the success of Spice’s long-awaited debut studio album ‘10’, which was also released in 2021 to much critical acclaim, and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album in the 2022 ceremony.

On February 6, The Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) confirmed the platinum certification, as the song has surpassed 80,000 sales in Canada, becoming Spice’s first Platinum certification, Shaggy’s third, and Sean Paul’s eighth. This is the first time in history that a Dancehall single by a Jamaican-born female artist has achieved such a feat, and will certainly not be the last, due to the increasing popularity of female talent in the Dancehall scene.

Artists such as Koffee and Shenseea have earned Gold certifications in Canada for ‘Toast’ and “Blessed’, respectively, so there is no doubt that Spice’s Platinum certification will not be a rarity.

The dancehall anthem has dominated charts globally since its release, reaching the peak of iTunes Reggae charts in many countries, including The USA, UK, Ireland, India, France, Switzerland, Mexico and the entirety of the Anglophone Caribbean. It has undoubtedly become a staple in clubs, parties, and playlists worldwide, showcasing the enduring influence of dancehall music on the global stage. Nearly three years after its release, ‘Go Down Deh’ is still charting within the top 100 of the Apple Music charts in Suriname and Montserrat, displaying its longevity and worldwide reach.

The success of the song added to her crossover appeal, alongside her appearances on VH1 show Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta as a regular cast member and Zeus’ Baddies Caribbean as a guest judge. Shortly after release, ‘Go Down Deh’ was performed internationally on Good Morning America, Good Morning Britain and The Wendy Williams Show, cementing its global success.

Spice took to social media to express her gratitude and excitement, sharing a heartfelt message with her fans. ‘Big up to all my Canadian fans for making ‘Go Down Deh’ a platinum hit! This is for you! Thank you for the love and support. Dancehall to di world!’ She exclaimed on Instagram to her millions of followers, whom she lovingly calls ‘Besties’, and formerly ‘Smurfs’, as an REFERENCE of her favourite colour, blue.

This leaves many fans wondering what is next for Spice, as her illustrious career has been the benchmark for up-and-coming Dancehall artists. She is in the process of recording her third studio album in Thailand. She confirmed this in an Instagram post on February 11, when she asked fans, “What type of songs do you want to hear from me?” It is safe to say that Spice will be making her triumphant return sooner rather than later.
